Course Spotlight: Take a closer look at Criminal Law and Private Security, part of the Criminal Justice specialized degree program at Katharine Gibbs School New York.

CJ110 Criminal Law
This course provides students with the basic theories, concepts, and terminology of criminal law. The legal foundations of criminal justice as well as substantive areas of criminal law will be discussed. Offenses against persons, crimes against property, alcohol and drug offenses, white-collar and organized crime, and offenses against public health and the environment are just some of the topics that will be introduced to the student.

CJ105 Private Security
This course presents an overview of the private security profession, including its principles, legal authority, and its effect on society. Students will be introduced to such topics as legal liability, investigating, testifying in court, institutional security, homeland security, violence in the workplace, events planning and ethics. The student will have the option of signing up for an 8-hour certificate program and receive a security certificate from the American Society for Industrial Security.
